The dream of thoroughbred ownership originated in the US Virgin Islands at Clinton Phipps Race Track on the beautiful island of St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. Many years later after visiting race tracks as a child and as a young adult, a summer vacation spent in Cincinnati, Ohio sparked the dream of thoroughbred ownership. The rest as they say is history. The love of the great game of tennis (score line 40/Love), the love of the beautiful islands in the Caribbean and love of the "Sport of Kings" lent itself to the creation of the name and logo.
(June 8th 1990-May 27th 2019)
Euclyn Prentice Jr. was born on June 8th 1990, in Christiansted on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Croix, United Stated Virgin Islands. Coming from a traditionally close knit family Euclyn nicknamed “Pede” by his grandparents knew he would one day have a career in thoroughbred horse racing. Many early mornings tagging along spent at the islands race track the Randall “Doc” James Racetrack where his father Euclyn Prentice Sr. and uncle bred and trained race horses. Their commitment and dedication waking up before sun rise naturally got young Pede’s attention but more importantly instilled a work ethic, a sense of humility and respect for others that he carried with him all the way until his untimely passing. Falling in love with the sport immediately, amazed by the grace and agility of thoroughbred race horses little did he know that by the age 28 a professional career would very quickly take this young up and coming U.S. Virgin Islands native to some of the best racing facilities in the mainland United States and begin to follow in the footsteps of a few of his local childhood idols Kevin Krigger, Victor Lebron, Julio Felix and Kerwin John. This lifelong dream as a highly sought after thoroughbred jockey guiding multi-million dollar race horses around 1-mile race courses with thousands of spectators cheering him on in the grandstands had just only begun.
Euclyn’s Jr.’s journey by many accounts was one that was on the “Fast Track”, as in less than four years (2015-2019) he had ridden 2,580 career races, recorded over 256 wins, 300 seconds, and 302 thirds, and eclipsed over 3.34 million dollars in career purse earnings. In retrospect however young Euclyn Jr’s journey is one that took some time to develop. After completing his high school education in the Virgin Islands he was unsure of the path he wanted to take but what he knew could certainly be a long and slow journey. With a drive and determination instilled in him by many positive influences in his life including his young daughter Zy’Naii he was most certain of his desire to make an impact in the sport of thoroughbred horse racing. Deeply rooted along with a passion of one day becoming a professional thoroughbred jockey was a desire to bring an even greater awareness of the beautiful place he calls home, the US Virgin Islands. Three week after arriving to the U.S. mainland Prentice Jr. began galloping horses at Thistledowns Race Course in North Randall, Ohio and it didn’t take long for him to get the attention of horse owners and trainers alike. Shortly thereafter he obtained his professional license and secured his first professional mount at the Thistledowns Race Course.
Although success may have blessed him relatively quickly he will be always remembered by his unforgettable smile, his willingness to work harder than his competitors, and his respect, humility and pride to be Virgin Islander through and through. All these were the qualities he carried with him everywhere he went. In the past year since his passing many owners, trainers, friends and fans have continued to offer their condolences to his family as he will be forever remembered by the familiar track announcers call “Your Winner …… Ridden to Victory by Euclyn “Pede” Prentice Jr.”
